The ‘donation’ section of the garden is dedicated to growing fruit and vegetables to be donated to individuals and families in the Birch neighborhood and beyond. Between 2009 and 2011, the garden has produced 3500 pounds of produce including corn, tomatoes, winter squash, cucumbers, radishes, lettuce, melons, green beans, peas, carrots, potatoes, herbs, raspberries, zucchini, pumpkins, artichoke, tomatillo, broccoli, peppers and onion.
Fresh produce is distributed to the community through the Salvation Army’s outreach and helped the students and families of the Salvation Army after school program, the residents of Silvercrest, FISH and individual members of the Broomfield and Boulder county communities. The Birch Community Garden will include a Donation Garden again this year and always welcomes volunteers to help with garden preparation, planting, and maintenance.
